For the cake layers, I traded out some granulated sugar and supplanted it with (light) earthy colored sugar to upgrade the flavor and praise the walnut pie filling. The icing is likewise made with (dim) earthy colored sugar rather than the conventional granulated sugar you find in a Swiss meringue.
